Egyptian born and headquartered in Paris, this business man educated at the EDHEC Business School started up with a garment company. Then he sold it in 1987 to get devoted to the real estate business and to collect Chinese contemporary art.
Leaving aside the undoubted merit and interest of the dslcollection itself as a carefully selected bunch of artwork pieces, the digital sharing approach that Sylvain Levy and his wife Dominique have attached to the collection from the very begining are worth to be examined.

“The 21st century collector must think beyond established boundaries.
The key factors that differentiate the dslcollection are its unique acquisition policy and its use of the latest technology; through technology, the collection is able to achieve greater visibility, upon which to build a strong personality of its own,” Sylvain Levy says on the occasion of the launch of the first 3D film on an exhibition of some installations and videos belonging to his collection.

Both this digital sharing approach, along with the unique identity of Sylvain Levy and his wife as art collectors add a creative turn as well as a social value to the personal purchase act, that goes far beyond the mere investment objective, just obtaining pleasure or the status achievement.

Aidan Sullivan (Vice President of photo assignments for Getty Images), who chaired the 19 professionals jury this year, commented: “The winning photo shows a poignant, compassionate moment, the human consequence of an enormous event, an event that is still going on. We might never know who this woman is, cradling an injured relative, but together they become a living image of the courage of ordinary people that helped create an important chapter in the history of the Middle East.”

The annual World Press Photo Contest is worldwide recognized as the leading international competition for photojournalists, setting the standard for the profession.
This is not the first price that Aranda receives for his work, but the one he won in 2006, the Spanish National Award of Photography from the photojournalist association ANIGP-TV, for a feature about African immigrants trying to reach Europe.

If Kandinsky had been a Japanese artist focused on animation films, he would have surely loved Mirai Mizue’s work.
